Hospiscare Men’s Walk 2017 – New mates and new memories
Earlier in March, Hospiscare was delighted to welcome a ‘sell-out’ crowd of men and boys, who joined the Hospiscare Charity Men’s Walk 2017, walking 8 miles in the fine weather along the canal path from Double Locks to the Turf Hotel and back again, to enjoy a pint, a Chunk pasty and watch England beat Scotland to retain the Calcutta Cup.
Event fundraiser, Sharon Ewart said, ‘There was a fantastic atmosphere on the day. This is a very popular event where the vast majority of the men, many of whom have been touched by Hospiscare’s services, return year on year to support us.’
‘We would like to give huge thanks to Wilkinson Grant for once again sponsoring the Men’s Walk and the 80+ enthusiastic volunteers who made this event possible by helping out within the event arena or marshalling along the route.’
One of the walkers, Jack Carter, said, ‘I walked in memory of my wife, Jan, who was looked after by Hospiscare, but I worried about raising sponsorship as I thought I had no friends or family to ask. Then I jotted down the names of family, friends and work colleagues, said “please, will you sponsor me” and before I knew it I had raised £1050. I felt proud to raise so much money for my wonderful wife – it’s a very, very good cause. Not only that, I somehow teamed up with another walker who was about my age, so I made a friend on the day too!’
Whilst sponsorship is still being sent in, it is anticipated that approximately £40,000 will have been raised from the day. If you still have sponsorship money to send, please contact the Hospiscare Fundraising Team on 01392 688020.
