Blundell's students complete Ten Tors Challenge
Twenty-two students from Blundell’s School took part in the annual Ten Tors event on Dartmoor over the weekend.
Despite gale force conditions in camp the night before the event, reducing sleep to just a couple of hours, all students made it to the start line at 7am and completed their respective distances in great spirits.
Conditions which improved as the weekend progressed served well to spur them on. Blundell’s fielded three teams; two 35 mile groups and a 45 mile group.
They were also fortunate to be offered places for four individuals with other teams, two with St Peter’s CCF, Exeter in their 45 mile team and two with Culm Valley Walkers in their 35 mile team.
With all walkers home by 2pm the Blundellians can be very proud of their achievements. Very few blisters the following morning has proven the groups this year to be an exceptionally strong walking cohort.
Their performance bodes well for repeat attempts at further distances in years to come.
As ever, the Army ran an exceptionally well organised event and it was hugely comforting to know that the walkers were so well monitored and looked after throughout the weekend.
Thanks must go out to all the supporters who joined the school at the finish line to see their teams over.
Dartmoor was surprisingly hospitable to the supporters this year and the teams were hugely appreciative of seeing so many friendly faces welcome them home after their tough challenge.
