A Celebration of Dartmoor’s Community Heritage

Find out more about the fascinating heritage projects that have been carried out as part of the Moor than meets the eye (MTMTE) Scheme at a free event on 10 March.

The event is being held at Dartmoor National Park Headquarters, on Saturday 10 March 2018, to celebrate the multitude of volunteer-led community heritage projects that have been running on Dartmoor as part of this Heritage Lottery funded scheme.

There will be a chance to hear the stories of twelve of the fourteen parishes involved in the Parishscapes project. The restoration of Buckland-in-the-moor’s Ten Commandments Stones, Bovey Tracey’s Granite Elements project, Lustleigh’s community archaeological excavation and Throwleigh’s community arts performances are just some of the projects that will be featured on the day.

The event is running between 10 am and 4 pm and is open to all, but tickets are limited in number and need to be reserved in advance online at www.eventbrite.co.uk

The Parishscapes project has been working with communities across the MTMTE area since 2015, to tell the Dartmoor story at a parish level and from a community perspective. Projects are supported with a Parishscapes grant and can focus on cultural, natural or built heritage. Parishscapes has encouraged numerous community groups to uncover more about their local heritage and the many dedicated volunteers have given over 9,000 hours of their time to the project.
