South West Communications Group will be assisting in setting up a new-look call centre for one of its customers to help support its call handling role for Comic Relief.

Axminster Tool Centre will be one of a select group of businesses taking calls from people pledging money to the charity throughout the evening of Red Nose Day on Friday (15 March).

To enable Axminster Tools to answer the volume of incoming calls South West Communications Group will give its time free of charge to change its current customer services call centre into one suitable for 60 call handlers to take pledges.

The new-look call centre has already been configured and tested at South West Communications Group’s headquarters in Exeter and will be installed at Axminster Tool Centre for Red Nose Day on Friday.  The centre will then be returned to its usual customer services set-up in time for Saturday morning’s normal business.

Simon Dunstan, Axminster Tool’s account manager, will also be giving up his time to help answer calls on the evening.

South West Communications Group’s managing director Harry Langley said: “Axminster Tool Centre have been our customers for over 20 years and we have built up a good relationship with them during that time. It is a pleasure to be able to help them with their Red Nose Day efforts, and I wish all their call centre staff the very best for what will hopefully be a very busy evening.”

As the main sponsor of Exeter Chiefs, South West Communications Group has also secured the services of three Aviva Premiership first team squad members to also assist Axminster’s call handlers.

The company has also given extra support to the Comic Relief cause in buying some of the 1,000 cup cakes made by Chiefs players Chris Whitehead, Jack Yeandle and Craig Rimmer and Exeter College catering students.
