18th Exeter School concert in aid of the National Trust
For many pupils, parents and National Trust supporters, the Exeter School Concert in aid of the National Trust in Exeter Cathedral is a highlight in the festive calendar.
For the eighteenth year running, the concert showcases the school's senior orchestral groups, brass and choirs in the magnificent cathedral setting.
Around 200 pupils ranging in age from 11 up to 18 will be making this year's concert on Monday 10 December a night to remember.
Director of Music Peter Tamblyn said: "The Cathedral is such an inspiring venue in which to make music and we are delighted to be returning again to perform in support of the National Trust. It is a very special concert within our musical calendar and one which the pupils, parents and staff all eagerly anticipate."
"Pupils from 11 - 18 years old will be singing in the choirs or playing in the orchestras and ensembles, and we are delighted that so many of their friends and families will be coming to support them and share in what is always a highlight of the Christmas season.
"This year the programme will include items from Britten's Ceremony of Carols, the Chamber Orchestra will perform Winter from Vivaldi's Four Seasons, featuring pupils soloists and Senior Choir will sing the Take That classic Shine. There will also be festive readings and a number of carols for all to join in."
Toby Fox, Assistant Director of Operations for Devon and the Tamar Valley, said: "The Exeter and District Centre over the years have supported many significant projects locally, their work is invaluable when it comes to caring for our special places.
"Through events such as the Christmas concert they are able to raise funds as well as promoting the care and preservation of cherished and well-loved places.
"This is a great way for the local community to support our conservation work looking after our places forever, for everyone while also enjoying an evening of festive music."
