Open Farm Sunday at Darts Farm

On 9th June 2019, Darts Farm, along with hundreds of farms all over the country, will host LEAF Open Farm Sunday 2019.  It’s the farming industry’s annual open day and a fantastic chance for locals and visitors to the area to support British farming, learn about farming at first hand and see for themselves how their food is produced.

Commenting on this annual event Michael Dart, Director of Darts Farm, says: “Open Farm Sunday is a brilliant initiative, one we are delighted to be a part of.  It’s a great opportunity to bring the farming community together, for them to meet the public and show what farming is all about.  We’re passionate about sharing the knowledge and expertise of our amazing team and artisan suppliers and feel this free event is the perfect opportunity to do so.”

James Dart, Director of Darts Farm, says about the event: “It’s a really fun day out for all the family with a host of activities taking place throughout the day and a chance to meet some of the farmers’ animals.  Barny Butterfield from Sandford Orchards will be demonstrating his apple harvester with opportunities for adults to try their hand at using this traditional harvesting method, children can then have fun pressing the apples into juice.  Come and also meet Black Dog Free Range Eggs and their fabulous chickens and other local food and drink producers, with plenty of sampling along the way!” 

Based in Topsham, Devon, Darts Farm is the epitome of a traditional working farm with an abundance of fruit and vegetables grown in its fields and a herd of highly sought after Ruby Red Devon cattle, which graze on the banks of the River Clyst.

Open Farm Sunday is managed by LEAF (Linking Environment And Farming). Since the first Open Farm Sunday in 2006, over 1,000 farmers across the UK have opened their gates and welcomed people onto their farm for one Sunday each year.

Celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, Darts Farm remains a family business run by the three Dart brothers; the retail looked after by Michael and James and the farm by Paul.  Darts Farm showcases the best food and drink the region has to offer and is home to a selection of handpicked specialist retailers.  These include The AGA Shop, Fired Earth, Orange Tree, Cotswold, RSPB, Energy Hair and the Treatment Loft.
