The Donkey Sanctuary stars on CBBC show

Staff at the state-of-the-art veterinary hospital at the international animal welfare charity The Donkey Sanctuary will feature on the CBBC show ‘The Pets Factor’ this Friday 19 July. The show will be aired at 9.05am and repeated later in the day at 4.35pm.

James Greenwood, one of the show’s professional vets visited The Donkey Sanctuary in Devon earlier this year, where he rolled up his sleeves and donned his surgical gown and assisted veterinary staff in performing castrate operations on three colts named Ben, Moshi and Casey.

The popular children’s show presented by Stacey Dooley, gives viewers a behind-the-scenes look at some of the best and most animal-friendly vet practices in the UK. It follows James and fellow vet presenters Cat, Rory and Cheryl as they help care for the animals at the practices they visit.

For one of The Donkey Sanctuary’s Veterinary Surgeons Karen Pickering, the visit was even more memorable, as she and James both studied Veterinary Science at Bristol University together.

The routine operations went smoothly with James ably assisting Veterinary Surgeons Karen Pickering, Vicky Grove and Rebecca Sullivan directly with the procedures. Ben, Moshi and Casey all recovered well from the procedures and have joined the herd at The Donkey Sanctuary’s Brookfield farm near Honiton.

Exeter Cathedral School Leavers Secure Awards Across the Curriculum

As this academic year draws to a close, Exeter Cathedral School is proud to announce that its Year 8 pupils have secured an impressive number of scholarships and exhibitions to their senior schools, with 26 prizes being awarded overall.

This year’s awards range across the curriculum, with pupils receiving scholarship and exhibition offers in Academic, Music, Art, Sport, Drama, Mathematics and All-Rounder. ECS is delighted to confirm that 81% of its Year 8 cohort will be leaving with a scholarship offer. ECS continues to maintain its reputation as an exceptional school for music, with a third of all awards being won on the strength of pupils’ musical prowess.

ECS has seen a steady increase in the number of pupils receiving prestigious awards. This year’s results clearly display the academic provision and support on offer for ECS pupils as they consider their next steps into senior school. Head of Scholarships and Enrichment, Mr James Meeke, who has been in post since 2016, added ‘It has been yet another record-breaking year, and I am delighted that our dedicated programme of scholarship preparation is opening doors for our pupils and enabling them to start life at senior school with the confidence of knowing that they at the top of their cohort.’

Notable pupil results include: Theo Daniell-Greenhalgh for achieving his Specialist Music Award to Wells Cathedral School; Felicity Partridge for the Scholarship Prize (awarded to the top candidate at 13+) to Exeter School – which is the 2nd year in a row that this award has been given to an ECS pupil; Nicholas Piachaud-Moustakis on receiving the Entrance Exhibition Prize to Exeter School; Bella Church and Isabella Peyton-Jones, who each received 3 awards to Blundell’s’; Hector Kennerley for his Music Scholarship to Sherborne School and Felix Willis for his Sports Scholarship to Clifton College.

Across the curriculum, ECS pupils were successful in achieving awards from recognised independent senior schools such as Exeter School, Blundell’s, Wellington, Canford, Sherborne, Stover, Wells Cathedral School and Clifton College.

Headmaster, James Featherstone commented, ‘Our pupils have done really well: I am delighted for them and really proud. This is our third record-breaking year in a row, and the fact that 81% of our senior pupils have been awarded with a scholarship to their senior school of choice speaks volumes about the pupils, their teachers, and the provision that the School is proud to offer.’
