Exeter City reaches to more female supporters thanks to Premier League Fans Fund grant
Exeter City Football Club is aiming to welcome more female supporters of all ages through the gates of its St James Park home ground after receiving exciting investment from the Premier League Fans Fund.
The £17,075 grant will allow Exeter City Community Trust to roll-out the Grecian Girls & Women Engagement project, a recruitment programme focused on increasing the number of female supporters, whilst also significantly enhancing the pre and post-match experience for all supporters.
City Community Trust will target outreach work with local female leagues and schools, promoting the match day experience at Exeter City and the importance of the club within the local community.
In addition, the Community Trust will also look to extend their family and Junior Grecian supporters’ membership, with a new interactive fan zone set to be introduced next season, along with the various opportunities to engage with the club on non-matchdays.
To celebrate the grant, members of women and girls’ teams gathered at the Junior Grecians Family Zone as part of Exeter City’s special One Game One Community Women and Girls’ Day. The day was held to celebrate the positive impact women and girls have on the football club and included half time parades by the Exeter City Women and members of the girls’ development centre.
The Premier League Fans Fund is a commitment from the Premier League to fund projects and organisations which improve the relationship between fans and their clubs, the way football supporters engage with each other and fans’ experience of the game.
Jamie Vittles, chief executive of CITY Community Trust, said: ‘We are thrilled to receive this grant from the Premier League Fans Fund. It’s so important for us to be able to develop our offer and our facilities to encourage more girls and women to attend matches at Exeter City.
‘Making an investment in the Junior Grecians is also a top priority for us. Young people are at the heart of our club and to be able to improve the facilities for them is incredibly valuable. We are looking forward to investing in the things that will make their experience at Exeter City even better.’
Partnership funding of £2,000 has been received from Exeter City Supporters’ Trust and £2,000 from Exeter City FC as part of the grant.
CITY Community Trust is Exeter’s leading health and wellbeing charity. It works in partnership with Exeter City Football Club and provides a range of activities to people of all ages, focused on health, education, wellbeing and physical activity.
