Flybe welcomes nine new Exeter cabin crew on board

Nine new cabin crew have today (25th July 2019) graduated from Flybe’s cabin crew Initials training programme and been presented with their ‘Wings’ by the airline’s new Chief Executive Officer, Mark Anderson, during a special ceremony held at Flybe’s Exeter Training Academy.

They are now fully qualified to care for the safety and wellbeing of Flybe passengers across the extensive network of routes that the airline operates to and from Exeter Airport.

They will be working on-board the airline’s 78-seat De Havilland Q-400 aircraft on routes such as those serving Amsterdam, Belfast City, London City, Paris and Manchester.

For the first time, all those receiving their Wings were recruited from recent graduates of the two-year full time BTEC 90 Credit Level 3 Diploma in Travel and Tourism: Air Cabin Crew Path - Flybe Academy offered by Exeter College and with which Flybe has a long-established relationship.

In his welcome to the newly qualified crew in front of their families and friends, Mr Anderson said: “it gives me enormous pleasure to share your proud moment and welcome you to the Flybe family. Our cabin crew are the ‘Faces of Flybe’ and receiving your Wings marks a very special moment at the beginning of a brand-new career.  Congratulations – I am incredibly proud of you.” 

Vice Principal for Schools, Partnerships and Curriculum at Exeter College, Rob Bosworth added: “We’re thrilled to see our students graduating today. The skills they’ve learnt through their programme at the college and with Flybe has meant they’re not only able to confidently step in to the next stage of their career, but they’re also able to thrive in that industry. I look forward to seeing how they continue to thrive in the coming years. This course and qualification is testament to the importance of our strong links and relationships with local employers and the excellent partnership we have had with Flybe for over 10 years." 

During the landmark programme’s recruitment process, and prior to being accepted on Flybe’s Initials’ course, prospective candidates had to meet the airline’s stringent selection criteria which includes having first to show they possess many of the necessary attributes required such as the ability to cope under pressure and work effectively within a team.  Once selected, the successful candidates embarked on a rigorous three-week course at Flybe’s Training Academy during which time they learned an essential and comprehensive range of skills to become fully qualified cabin crew and passed a series of exams which included those covering safety, first aid and customer service.
