Resurfacing work on the Exe Estuary Trail
Resurfacing will be carried out on a section of the Exe Estuary Trail near Bridge Road next week (Monday 10 February).
The stretch of the shared-use trail between Bridge Road and Station Road car park, near the Turf Hotel, will be closed for approximately five days from Monday 10 February while the repair scheme is carried out.
Part of the towpath public right of way, which leads on and off the trail between Bridge Road and the Station Road car park, will also be closed to the general public for the duration of the work, which is expected to be completed by the weekend of Sunday 16 February.
Contractor Kennford Tarmac will have to access the site via the Station Road car park.
A section of this car park will be fenced off for the contractors throughout the duration of the work to store machinery and material for the scheme.
This area for the contractor will be kept to a minimum and spaces will remain for public parking.
Councillor Stuart Hughes, Devon County Council Cabinet Member with responsibility for cycling, said: “Replacing the current surface will be a huge improvement for pedestrians and cyclists who regularly use this part of the trail. Unfortunately, this section will have to be closed while the resurfacing is carried out, but every effort will be made to complete the work and re-open this section as soon as possible.”
Councillor Alan Connett, County Councillor for Exminster and Haldon, said: “This upgrade will be greatly welcomed by cyclists, improving a particularly bumpy section. It will make cycling the Estuary Trail even more enjoyable.”
A diversion route for cyclists and walkers using the Exe Estuary Trail will be signed using a combination of quiet roads, the road through Exminster, and shared footway/cycle routes.
Advance warning signs are already in place along the trail to give walkers and cyclists notice of the upcoming scheme.
