Stagecoach apprentices are fit for the future
Stagecoach South West reflects on the great success of their bus driver apprenticeship as national apprenticeship week draws to a close.
With 36 apprentices currently on the bus driver apprenticeship programme as well as a number of engineering apprentices at its four locations across Devon, Plymouth and Torbay, the South West are leading the way with some stand out apprentices already in 2020.
The bus driver apprenticeship programme includes workshops with a customer service focus covering all areas from ticket machines to route familiarisation. January’s Apprentice of the Month winner Joe Squires said; ‘It is so worthwhile! It’s not just a job you are getting qualifications from it. When I finish the apprenticeship I will have a Level 2 Functional Skills Maths and English qualification, as well as a bus driver Level 2 Passenger Transports to help my future career. I’d recommend it to anyone I really enjoy it.”
Since the bus driver apprenticeship started back in September 2019, it has continued to grow with new intakes every 2 weeks. The rigorous programme sees the apprentices through training to obtain their PCV licence which enables them to drive passengers carrying vehicles.
Brooke Taylor Smith, Apprentice of the Month for February, said; “I am very proud of myself that I have won apprenticeship of the month. I am glad I was given the opportunity to do the apprentice with Interserve as I find the workshops very informative and they will help me with my role with stagecoach. I am looking forward to carrying on my apprenticeship and my future career with Stagecoach.”
