Driving on the roads, paying attention to driving and respecting traffic signals is very important when being behind the wheel. Some drivers forget that the timing of parking the car in parking lots is also important.

A study found that 20% of all accident-related insurance claims were related to incidents that occurred within parking limits. Accidents like these could continue to happen if drivers and pedestrians do not pay due attention to the dangers of these situations. In the rush to find a parking space, many drivers make many dangerous maneuvers. Obstacles and obstructions in parking lots can cause a driver to not make a good decision and to go to an available space very quickly.

There are several factors that contribute to the chaotic environment of a parking lot:

  • Unpredictable traffic patterns.
  • Drivers scramble to find an available parking spot, ignoring road signs and closing distances between parking spaces and oncoming lanes.
  • Many parking lots do not have designated lanes for pedestrians, forcing them to walk between the parking spaces and the road, many of these pedestrians are holding children by the hand.

During the holiday season these conditions tend to escalate, affecting more patient drivers. With such a high level of traffic and activity in parking lots, both drivers and pedestrians are at risk. Parking lot accidents affect not only the driver and pedestrians, but property owners as well

It is an obligation for any parking lot manager to provide a safe and comfortable parking space. Both of these are the rights of each parking area user. They paid for it after all. Failure to provide security and comfort can lead to lawsuits.

Designing and developing parking lots requires careful calculation, planning, and organization. Creating a safe environment that is not only effective but also functional begins with the analysis of different factors:

  • The number of parking spaces offered by the area
  • The dimensions of the parking lot
  • The characteristics of the users (vehicles and passers-by)
  • The public transport system

The “peak” hours of parking demand are also a determining factor when designing the parking lot, since these structures are mostly located on private property, therefore, we rarely have the presence of the traffic authority within parking lots. This point increases the importance of having organized and safe traffic for car and pedestrian traffic during these “rush” hours.

An organized (or disorganized) parking lot can influence the number, type and frequency of customers or visits.

Easy access to entry or exit points, the number of parking spaces available, and fees are some of the factors that are considered when choosing a place to do your shopping. Parking lots are often the first place where the customer has contact with a store or shopping center. First impressions are important as these can affect the customer's experience when deciding to use the facility. That’s why modern car parking system is important.

Traffic signs, indicators and devices to reduce speed are some of the needs for parking lots.

These devices help guide traffic and pedestrians through the facility. The larger the parking lot, the more solutions will be required. The challenge is to implement the correct solutions without creating confusion, obstacles, or possible distraction.

Continuous maintenance of the facilities is very important.

Maintaining a clean environment free of dust and trash, making sure vacant parking spaces are available for use, and replacing broken or dilapidated road signs not only helps increase property value, but also allows make a good impression on consumers.
