Live virtual open events for parents choosing a primary school demonstrate breadth of educational opportunities despite restrictions
The first of three virtual open events was streamed live by Devon’s Cornerstone Academy Trust on 1st December. Parents choosing a school for their children to attend from next September were able to see activity and hear from teachers at all the primary schools in the Trust, and two further events will take place on 10th and 16th December. These are happening despite the current restrictions, thanks to the use of the digital media for which the Trust has an international reputation, and all are being recorded so that those unable to attend live will be able to watch them later. The recording of the first event can be viewed at https://vimeo.com/485936968
Broadclyst Community Primary School, Westclyst Community Primary School and Monkerton Community Primary School are in the Exeter area. Yeo Valley Primary School is in Barnstaple.
The online events offer parents virtual tours, live presentations from the leadership team, teachers and the SEND team and a wide variety of sessions showing children’s classroom, outdoor and creative activities. The two-hour sessions also offer Q&A opportunities via Microsoft Teams.
Jonathan Bishop, Trust CEO and Executive Headteacher explained: “We have used technology for the past eight months to continue children’s education seamlessly during lockdowns and restrictions. Now we can demonstrate to parents of children due to start school in 2021 just how effective the combination of face-to-face and virtual learning can be. Parents will be able to understand more about the schools, their staff and the Trust’s ethos, as well as seeing at first hand their high standards of education, amazing facilities and commitment to harnessing this technology to provide excellence in teaching and learning.”
