New Chairman for Poltimore House Trust
Call for more trustees and volunteers
Poltimore House Trust has appointed Dr Peter Totterdill as its new Chairman of Trustees for the charity whose aim is to renovate and refurbish the historic building on the outskirts of Exeter to create a visitor experience, events venue and a centre for well-being projects.
Crediton born Professor Totterdill, 67, is co-managing director of locally based Workplace Innovation Europe CLG where he advises businesses and other organisations on how to introduce new work practices that improve performance, employee engagement and well-being at work.
He is a highly experienced communicator, speaking frequently at conferences and seminars throughout Europe and beyond and is also Visiting Professor at Kingston University London and Mykolas Romeris University, Vilnius, Lithuania.
The grade II* listed building has variously been a stately home, hospital and school and is now managed by the Poltimore House Trust with the remit to preserve this historic building and its estate. Events including tours, talks, exhibitions, health and wellbeing events and fairs are regular features at Poltimore House and grounds.
Peter Totterdill said: “Poltimore House first came to the general public’s notice in 2003 as a contender in the BBC’s Restoration programme when it became abundantly clear what a mammoth task this renovation project was going to be and still is.
“My focus will be on developing the Trust’s strategy for restoring Poltimore House as a vibrant hub for therapy, arts, business and the community, working closely with the Friends of Poltimore House.
“Fund-raising to keep the day-to-day operations going is vital to us with income being generated through events and through ’Branches’ our café/teashop for which we desperately need more volunteers.
”Poltimore House is a hidden gem of a building and we would love to hear from people interested in supporting us.
