Local homebuilder donates £2,500 to local homelessness charity
Local homebuilder Barratt David Wilson Homes Exeter division has donated a heart-warming £2,500 to St Petrock’s Exeter, a local charity that fights homelessness across Exeter and Devon.
The Barratt Developments Community Fund initiative looks to support those causes which have a positive impact within their local communities. As well as the donation Barratt David Wilson Homes staff were also able to volunteer in the St Petrock’s kitchens. St Petrock’s first opened their doors over 25 years ago and have since been providing crucial support and outreach to the most vulnerable within our community.
As well as giving practical support and shelter, St Petrock’s also focus on helping people to help themselves, providing advice, support and services on a range of issues like mental health, which help people deal with the difficulties often associated with homelessness. St Petrock’s is the first point of contact for many people and is open Monday to Friday and supports over 600 people per annum that are faced with homelessness or difficulties.
This Christmas St Petrock’s will be working hard to provide a mobile outreach service that will be going out a twice a day each weekday to serve hot meals and offer one-to-one specialist support.
Peter Stephenson, Director of St Petrock's said, "Almost all our income for the work of St Petrock's comes from the local community, which ensures we are always able to ensure that the needs and wishes of people experiencing homelessness are the driving force behind the services we provide, rather than the latest government initiative.
“The local business community is particularly supportive, and this generous donation from Barratt Homes is a huge boost to us at this challenging time when cold weather and the cost of living crisis are combining to make life extremely hard for those in greatest need."
Nicki Reid, sales director for Barratt David Wilson Homes Exeter, said, “We are proud to be supporting St Petrock’s Exeter, a charity that provides an incredible service to the local community. Community is at the heart of our developments and addressing homelessness is a cause that is very close to our hearts.”
