McDonald’s franchisee, David Shawyer, who runs and operates four restaurants in the Exeter and Exmouth area, has donated £600 worth of litter collection equipment to the Budleigh Salterton Lions.

The donation supports McDonald’s commitment to tackling litter in local communities and will help to make a difference in keeping the Exmouth and Exeter area clean.

David and his team will also be using the donated litter collection equipment, along with a Keep Britain Tidy ‘Big School Clean Kit’ to complete an upcoming local litter picking event with local primary schools in and around Budleigh Salterton.

Local McDonald’s franchisee David Shawyer, says: “McDonald’s has committed to help keep our local communities clean for over 40 years. It’s more important than ever we continue in the fight against litter. We’re proud to do our bit in keeping Exmouth and Exeter clean and support amazing organisations such as the Budleigh Salterton Lions.”

Richard Allen, President of the Budleigh Salterton Lions, says:“We’re hugely grateful to McDonald’s for the donation and supply of litter collection equipment. Our club is all about getting together to do good things and looking after the environment is among the top priorities for the Lions Club. I believe we can all make a difference and help improve our local environment for the benefit of residents, visitors and our wonderful local wildlife”.

McDonald’s is tackling litter in local communities, both by litter picking and reducing the amount of waste its restaurants produce. The brand was the first restaurant company to introduce litter patrols in the UK in 1982, and its franchisees and employees have cleaned up irresponsibly discarded litter dropped in towns and cities across the country for over 40 years.

McDonald’s also has recycling units in over 1,100 of its restaurants to help customers dispose of their packaging responsibly, recycles coffee cups from all coffee retailers and developed a new industry standard for paper straws.
