City Fans’ Player of the Year to be announced at Cheltenham game
Exeter City are issuing a call to arms to supporters for the final home game of the season, as Cheltenham visit St James Park on Saturday 20 April (kick-off 3pm) – and are inviting the fans to come and celebrate the announcement of their nominated Player of the Year for the 2012/13 season.
With the Grecians still in the running for a play-off spot, the club are asking as many supporters to come and contribute to an electric atmosphere at the final home game of the season.
As well as the usual fare of a crunch League 2 tie, the stadium will also be a hive of activity for the whole afternoon of the final home game. In particular, the highlight for many will be the awarding of the club’s Player of the Year award, which will be announced after the end of the game. Supporters have been naming their nominations over the past month through voting on the club website and in-person at Reception at St James Park.
Supporters will also be granted the opportunity to have their very own unique Exeter City memento of the 2012/13 season. Inside the matchday programme for the final game will be a pull-out poster of the squad photo for the season, courtesy of programme designers and printers Kingfisher, with dedicated spaces for each of the first-team players and management to sign their autographs. The players will be walking around the perimeter of the pitch after full-time to sign the posters for fans.
A number of other end-of-season awards will also be being announced before kick-off, ahead of their formal presentation at the End of Season Gala Ball at St James Park on Sunday 28 April, and the Tiverton Town band return to the Park once again to provide pre-match entertainment around the ground. The players will also be warming up in their Know the Score t-shirts, in support of Bowel Cancer awareness month, of which The Adam Stansfield Foundation is one of the most prominent charities.
At half-time, Eastside FC’s juniors will take on Denbury Primary School in the shoot-out on the pitch. And after the final whistle, the club's esteemed volunteers are being treated to a post-match meal, courtesy of the Supporters’ Trust, as a gesture of appreciation for all the hard work that they have put in over the course of the year.
Chief Executive Julian Tagg is calling on supporters to fill the Park on Saturday and to contribute to a special atmosphere. He said: “There have been plenty of games this season which have had a really big build up, but this weekend’s game against Cheltenham has to be there as the biggest. We’re hoping it’s going to be a truly spectacular atmosphere, and that it becomes one of those afternoons which we remember fondly for years to come.
“It’ll also be a great occasion for the players and supporters to show each other mutual thanks – it’s a chance for the supporters to dig deep for one more home match of the season, and it’ll give the supporters the chance to own a really personal piece of memorabilia by getting as many autographs as possible on their poster!”
