Seasonal beach ban on dogs starts 1 May

East Devon District Council (EDDC) has passed byelaws prohibiting dogs from certain parts of the beaches in the District between 1 May and 30 September each year.

There are still many areas where dogs are welcome and visitors who are unsure about where they may take their dogs onto the beach are strongly advised to check the signs or EDDC's website before taking their dogs onto the beaches. EDDC is happy to give advice to holidaymakers with dogs about the best areas to visit.

Uniformed and plain clothes enforcement officers will be patrolling all areas throughout the summer and people found walking their dogs in these banned areas may be served with a fixed penalty notice, which carries a fine of £80. If any case is taken to court there could be a fine of up to £1,000.

Please remember that in any public open space dog owners must pick up after their dogs and dispose of the mess in the bins provided. Regular patrols will continue throughout the year and residents are reminded that at any time of the year it is an offence to fail to pick up after your dog.
