The sunshine drew many families to Wembury beach over the bank holiday weekend to take part in "50 things to do before you are 11¾" with the South Devon National Trust Rangers. Families joined in a variety of activities including mini raft building, kite making, and a family orienteering challenge; as well as an evening rock pool ramble led by the Devon Wildlife Trust Marine Centre Wardens.

National Trust Internship Ranger, Hollie Ferris, commented: "The '50 Things' campaign is all about reconnecting children with nature, getting kids back outdoors and having fun. It was great watching all the families work together as a team to build the rafts, cheering them on during the race and then competing in the orienteering challenge.

"The children managed to complete 8 of the challenges at this event, and we gave them plenty of ideas about where to complete others along our beautiful South Devon coastline. We loved teaching all the children how to make a grass trumpet and even taught some of their parents too."

At the end of the evening the group sat round the camp fire to watch the sun go down; and enjoyed hot chocolate and toasted marshmallows before heading home. One of the parents stated: ‘It has been a fantastic evening and we have thoroughly enjoyed working together doing all the activities as a family."

The new updated list of "50 Things" can be found on the National Trust website www.nationaltrust.org.uk/50things, where children are encouraged to get mucky, discover their wild side and most of all enjoy what Mother Nature has to offer.
