Six teams from Stephens Scown solicitors in Exeter will, on Friday 7 June, take on the Cotswold Way PLOD for children’s charity Action Medical Research.

The walking challenge is no walk in the park, covering 40 miles through the night.

The Action PLOD walking challenges are long and strenuous, requiring team work, stamina, coordination and willpower. Money raised will go to help the charity fund vital research for sick babies and children.

Phil Gregory, Partner at Stephens Scown LLP says: “Being an adventurous bunch at Stephens Scown, we are always looking for new challenges. Having tackled the Yorkshire Three Peaks, the National Three Peaks, a 30 mile walk across Dartmoor and a day hike across the Brecon Beacons, we feel the Action PLOD is a great ‘next’ challenge for us – especially with the added mission of seven teams to round-up!

“Charity fundraising is an important part of what we do – giving back where possible not only provides an incredible feel good factor, but raises much needed funds for such deserving charities as Action Medical Research.”

The tough Cotswold Way PLOD will take 12-16 hours and begins at midnight near Dursley in South Gloucestershire.

The 40-mile trek follows the escarpment of the Cotswold Hills with panoramic views across the Severn Vale. Walkers will pass through beech woods and open pasture land and picturesque villages.  The finish line of the beautiful ancient long trail is at Cleeve Hill.

Tracey Edwards, event organiser for the Action Cotswold Way PLOD, says: “Whether you are a seasoned trail walker or just up for the experience of a big challenge for 2013 this is the event for you. Our PLODs are very popular, with many teams returning year after year to beat their previous best time. They are tough events but great fun for all involved and very rewarding.”

PLOD events require teams of four walkers and a support driver (plus vehicle). The Action team are experienced organisers and marshals and medical team are available through the walk.  Hot food and drinks are also provided. Other PLODs take place across the UK in 2013: Mourne Mountains (21 June), South Downs Way (26 July) Trossachs (23 August) and Rutland Round (13 September).
