As the days get shorter and Jack Frost nips at our toes, what better way to spend the seasonal holidays than in the festive atmosphere of the Exeter Christmas Market.

Set against the stunning backdrop of Exeter Cathedral, the inaugural Exeter Christmas Market promises to engage and excite visitors and shoppers alike. Combining products from local traders and traders from around the globe, the market will offer a veritable feast of quality fayre.

It is anticipated that this festive shopping event shall follow in the tradition of other Christmas markets, bringing with it a positive economic impact for the City of Exeter.

Exeter City Centre Manager John Harvey said. “We are delighted to be hosting the Christmas Market in conjunction with Exeter Cathedral, Exeter Chamber of Commerce and the Heart of Devon Tourism Partnership. The Christmas market offers a wonderful opportunity for local retailers and residents of the City to enjoy and make the most of the festive period. The Christmas market will be a hub of activity, offering quality produce and unique seasonal charm – all of which will serve only to boost the visitor experience”.

The opening of the market will take place on the evening of 23rd November with a beautiful light parade led by local school children. The parade will end at the Cathedral where it will be met by Cathedral choristers and local pantomime characters.

Chief Executive of Market Place Europe, Nick Rhodes said: "We are delighted to be coming to Exeter for the first time and to be providing new retail experiences that will enhance Christmas shopping for everyone. We are especially thrilled to be setting up our Christmas market on the Cathedral Green, a very special venue that captures the essence of Exeter”.

With over 50 traders, the Christmas market offers visitors a journey around the globe. Hungry festive shoppers can feast on roast hog, Belgian chocolates, baklava, crêpes, speciality cheeses and meats from across the continent.

Local retailers will make up 20% of the traders, who will be offering traditional Christmas crafts and local foods, while a local glass blower will be demonstrating his skills.

To celebrate the arrival of the Christmas market, schools and community groups will be offered free tours. Lasting up to 45 minutes, the tours give a unique and entertaining insight into the world of Christmas Markets.

To book a tour email amy@typeabconsultancy.com - please note that tours are offered on a first-come first-served basis and early booking is advised. Open from 10am each day (11am on Sundays), the Exeter Christmas Market will be on Cathedral Green until 16 December.
