New survey reveals the positive impact cycling has on a child's mental wellbeing

Cycling as a family helps to improve children’s mental health, say parents in south west England.

Over half (54%) of parents in the region say family bike rides improve their child’s self-confidence, increases alertness and relieves stress, according to a survey by The Bikeability Trust, the national charity for Bikeability.

Maynard School Sixth Former, Jessica Carr, not only achieved four straight A*s in her Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Chemistry A-levels and a further A* for her Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) but she also scored a flawless 100% in the incredibly testing Edexcel Maths paper 2, putting her as one of the country’s top A-level mathematicians. Students and staff at South Dartmoor Community College (SDCC) Sixth Form and Atrium Studio School Sixth Form are celebrating achieving an exceptional set of AS, A Level and Level 3 Applied and Vocational results.

The schools, which are part of South Dartmoor Multi-Academy Trust, achieved a 99 per cent pass rate, with students successfully surpassing expectations and securing places at university.

Students from Colyton Grammar School (CGS) have again achieved excellent A-level results, far outstripping the national average for A and A* grades.

Some 66% of students achieved A and A* grades, compared with the national average of 25.5%. Overall, 87.1% achieved grades from A* to B, with the school outperforming its results from last year and bucking the national trend.

Exeter College is celebrating another year of exceptional academic results, following the best International Baccalaureate results in the college’s history earlier this summer. Today’s A Level results are also setting new records, with students achieving an overall pass rate of 99.7%, well above the national average of 97.6%.

The success is particularly notable as this is the first year that all A Level results have rested solely on a final exam at the end of two years of academic study, rather than a combination of results achieved over two years.

Two Emergency Medicine doctors at the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust are swapping their scrubs for the sea as they attempt to row 3000 miles across the Atlantic Ocean, in aid of Devon Air Ambulance.

Charlie Fleury and Rosie Alterman, who make up the ‘EmergenSea Girls’, are planning to take part in the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge in December 2020.
