Network Rail and Teignbridge District Council join forces to clear popular footpath beneath Dawlish station

Ahead of the peak tourist season, staff from Network Rail and Teignbridge District Council have come together to clear up sand and gravel washed up on to the popular coastal path running beneath Dawlish railway station.

The section of footpath had become difficult to navigate due to the build-up of beach debris over the winter months, especially for owners of mobility scooters and wheelchairs, and for parents with pushchairs and buggies.

Bishop Fleming have raised over £100,000 for charity in just six months.

The firm, which delivers audit, accounting and tax services pledged to fundraise £100k throughout 2019, as it celebrates its centenary year.

After significant fundraising activities in the first half of the year, the target has already been smashed with over 2500 donations made, benefitting over 60 charities.

McDonald’s contributes £3.3m to the Exeter economy and brings 222 jobs to the city

An independent economic report commissioned by McDonald’s to mark 45 years of operating in the UK, reveals the business and its suppliers have made a combined contribution of £3.3 million annually to Exeter.

Despite numerous high-street businesses in decline across the UK, McDonald’s continues to invest in and grow both its High Street and Drive-Thru operations, many of which are located in town centre locations. Without including its supply chain, in 2017 alone, McDonald’s directly generated more than £2.8m in the city.

Exeter-based national technology firm Software Solved has announced that Lindsay Lucas has been appointed as its new Managing Director.

Green Flag Award for Grand Western Canal Country Park

The Grand Western Canal Country Park is among a record number of parks and green spaces to receive a Green Flag Award on Tuesday.

New mobile app helps Ambulance Service save lives

Lives could be saved this summer thanks to a new system being used by South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT).

SWASFT has recently adopted the three-word global address system called what3words in its Control Room to locate patients within a three-square metre area.

999 callers can use the free app to find the three-word address for their location, and share it with the call handler.

The Control Room can use the address to identify the precise location, and send help exactly where it is needed.

Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cornwall visited The Donkey Sanctuary’s international headquarters in Sidmouth, Devon today (Wednesday 17 July) to commemorate the charity’s 50th anniversary.

New swing bridge installed on popular cycle and walking route

Riverside users in Exeter are enjoying a new cycle and foot bridge on a popular route into the city.

The new King’s Arms swing bridge linking Haven Banks to the Kings Arms Isthmus – land that includes footpaths and cycle paths beside the Trews Weir Flood Relief Channel – has been installed and is now open to use.

The old bridge, which was first installed in 1972, had deteriorated over time and become rotten in places.
