The charity behind the region’s three top zoos has launched a new website with a new look and a radical new approach. Wild Planet Trust is the new name for the charity that runs Paignton Zoo, Living Coasts in Torquay and Newquay Zoo in Cornwall.

The charity’s new website places a strong emphasis on highlighting the conservation and research work of the zoos.

Countdown begins to Exeter Festival 

It’s just days now until the all-new Exeter Festival gets under way.

Exeter Festival kicks off on Friday 5 July with three days of entertainment in the city.

The Festival promises to be a weekend of fun, with live music, outdoor film screenings and bags of activities for all the family in Northernhay Gardens and around Exeter.

Sarah Daniel from RGB Building Supplies is celebrating after winning the Independent Rising Star of the Year Award at the prestigious BMJ Industry Awards 2019, her second national honour within the past seven months.

Organised by the Builders Merchants Journal, the awards celebrate the UK merchanting industry and highlight the businesses, brands and people that make the sector so successful. Sarah, 26, was presented with her award during a ceremonial lunch hosted by Natasha Kaplinsky OBE at The Brewery in London.

There are baby red ruffed lemurs at Paignton Zoo – and just look at them!

The charity zoo is a professional science and conservation body working internationally to help save these Critically Endangered primates – but sometimes all the serious stuff is pushed to one side by incredibly cute baby animals.

Head Keeper of Mammals Owen Taylor said: “When we were sure she was close to giving birth, we put some ropes up at the indoor viewing area to give her some additional privacy and the best opportunity of raising her offspring.”

Honiton’s independent auction house, Chilcotts Auctioneers is celebrating after a bumper sale.

Many auction lots achieved in excess of their estimates after a surge of interest in the June Fine Art, Antiques and Collectors Items sale.

Top performer was a lot comprising important WW2 medals and memorabilia, including the logbooks, photographs, training manuals and uniforms of Bomber Command pilot Group Captain Peter Casement. This achieved a hammer price of £21,000 against an upper estimate of £15,000.

Property consultancy JLL has been appointed to market the new phase of development at the popular Edginswell Business Park in Torquay.

Following the success of the original site, the remaining six acres of Edginswell was purchased by Torbay Council in late 2018. Acting as developer, the authority can now provide leasehold buildings for a variety of uses.
