Housebuilder searching for new apprentices in Exeter

Barratt and David Wilson Homes is continuing its positive work to support local employment, by creating new roles to develop talent in the construction industry in Exeter.

The leading housebuilder, which is has its regional headquarters in Exeter, aims to recruit five new bricklaying apprentices to work across its developments in the region. They include sites in Exeter and Pinhoe.

It will also look to recruit a Technical Advanced Apprentice and a Commercial Advanced Apprentice who will have roles based at head office.

Nobel Prize winner and influential African businesswoman Ouided Bouchamaoui spoke about her extraordinary role bringing democracy to Tunisia during a visit to the University of Exeter.

Madame Bouchamaoui is a member of the Tunisian Dialogue Quartet, a group awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2015 following the events of the Jasmine Revolution in the country in 2011.

A Tesco employee from the Tesco superstore in Exmouth is to feature on a Mother’s Day card sold across the UK to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Elizabeth Reynolds has had her personal story and photograph included on a card designed by Hallmark. It is hoped that the card and Elizabeth’s story will connect with and support other people affected by the disease this Mother’s Day, as well as raising vital funds for Cancer Research UK. Elizabeth’s card can now be found in all large Tesco stores.

Singing triumphs for QE student!

Congratulations to Year 10 QE student, Ava Fitzhugh, who recently brought home two big musical wins!

Ava competed in the District Final of the Rotary Young Musician of the Year 2019, between winners in Devon and Cornwall this weekend at Fowey (she already won the East Devon final) and managed to win her stage.

Ava sang Handel and Mozart and goes on to compete at the Regional Finals on 31St March.

Over 1,000 trees planted and more help is needed

Volunteers helped to put over 1,000 trees in the ground at community planting days held near Clyst Honiton recently.

By the end of the second planting day, volunteers had planted more than half of the total number of trees for Mosshayne farm, which meant they had completed the first wood on “the island” – the name of one of the new woods located between the River Clyst and a leat. It means that more than a thousand new trees are now in the ground.
