Exciting plans for a week-long Exeter Pride 2019

TRUSTEES and volunteers working hard behind the scenes are proud to announce that Exeter Pride in 2019 will take place on Saturday, May 11 and will be part of a wider week of events in the city.

Exeter Pride is one of the South West's biggest celebrations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and questioning plus (LGBTQ+) communities, and one of the biggest free Pride events in the country.

It is a key annual event in Exeter's calendar and exciting plans are being made for the 11th annual event.

The Crediton Parish Church Flower Festival is one of the main fundraising events for the upkeep of Holy Cross and many people from our parishes work to make it a very special and memorable week.

The 2019 Festival has the intriguing title ‘Colours of the Wind’ and runs from 10am on Saturday 1st June until 5pm on Thursday 6th June.

Work towards the 2019 Flower Festival began as soon as the 2018 Festival ended.

Work to start on two new Honiton play installations

Two play areas in Honiton are getting a new lease of life this month, thanks to East Devon District Council, which is investing £130,000 of modern and exciting equipment in the sites.

The installations will be carried out by the council’s contractor Kompan and work is due to begin at St Marks play area from 7 January and at Glen Farm play area from 21 January.

It will take around five weeks to complete the installation of equipment and safety surfacing and, weather permitting, it is anticipated that the play areas should be ready for use in February.

Woodbury residents to trial additional recycling bag for cardboard

The residents of Woodbury will be trialling an additional recycling bag for the collection of cardboard from March.

Around 850 households in the village will be asked to collect their cardboard in a white foldaway collection bag instead of their green box and put the bag out at the kerbside with their other recycling containers on their usual recycling collection day.

Each household will receive a letter from East Devon District Council’s recycling team with more information about the delivery of the bags and a start date for the trial.

EDDC agrees £1.1m Enterprise Zone investment in Exeter Science Park

East Devon District Council’s Cabinet last night agreed to invest £1.1m in the development of a new Open Innovation Building at Exeter Science Park, in the Exeter and East Devon Enterprise Zone.

A new Clapper Bridge has been installed over the Western Wella Brook, along with path and drainage improvements on the associated public right of way, which is part of both the Abbots Way and the Two Moors Way.

Exeter-based Sing for Fun: A natural high?

In September 2018, Dr Michael Mosely presented the BBC Two programme Trust Me I'm a doctor called 'Can singing give you a natural high?'. They tested whether singing, dancing and cycling could boost levels of endocannabinoids - chemicals thought to be responsible for the 'runner's high'. The result showed that levels were increased by 20% when dancing or cycling. When singing, the levels of endocannabinoids were increased by 40% and big improvements were found in 'mood' together with reduced anxiety and feeling less stressed.
