Krispies Fish & Chips from Exmouth, Devon are frying high today as they celebrate netting the enviable title of the UK’s best fish and chip shop at the National Fish & Chip Awards 2019, organised by Seafish.

Owned and operated by husband and wife team Kelly and Tim Barnes, Krispies beat off competition from nine other finalist shops to clinch the title, which has led to previous champions doubling their turnover in the twelve months following the announcement.

Devon teenagers hear incredible tales of courage from Holocaust survivor

Hundreds of Devon teenagers and students witnessed the incredible courage of concentration camp survivor Mala Tribich during an event organised to mark Holocaust Memorial Day.

Historians and other experts took part in the now annual conference, held at the University of Exeter and organised for the third time by final year history student Barnabas Balint.

Around 200 participants listened to Mrs Tribich speak and also took part in seminars where they learned more about the Holocaust and were able to discuss its impact.

Councillors will discuss improvements to the city’s leisure facilities and the sale of the former Clifton Hill Sports Centre site at a special meeting next week.

Paignton Zoo has bred a species of venomous lizard for the first time. Two Mexican beaded lizards have hatched at the Devon zoo. Incredibly, the moment one egg hatched was captured by Zoo photographer Elliye Stobbart.

This CITES protected lizard (Heloderma horridum) is a venomous species found principally in Mexico and southern Guatemala. Heloderma means "studded skin", and with its dramatic black and yellow beaded body, this predator is quite a sight from the moment it hatches. Woodbury cardboard collection trial due to start in March

Further information for the residents of Woodbury about a trial to collect cardboard in an additional recycling bag will be sent out later this month.

From March 1, around 850 households in the village will be asked to collect their cardboard in a white foldaway collection bag instead of their green recycling box and have it collected from the kerbside with their other recycling containers on their usual recycling collection day.
