Poppies at the Cathedral

The High Altar at Exeter's Cathedral has been decorated by the sea of poppies which were first seen at Devon County Show 2017, and created by so many wonderful people from Devon.

35,000 poppies are displayed, representing those that lost their lives in the First World War from Devon, Cornwall, Somerset and Dorset.

Also included in the display is the original Devon Yeomanry uniform and a horse, kindly lent by Bicton College. The horse and the purple poppies represent all the animals lost - over 1 million horses, many pigeons, dogs and cats.

Five National Hunt horses to look out for this season

The Haldon Gold Cup at Exeter Racecourse is one of the big National Hunt races of the 2018/19 campaign and part of a 17 race day fixture list at the Devon course this season. The winner of the 2m1f Grade Two contest usually goes on to be a big contender for one of the leading races at the Cheltenham Festival in the division.

A Christmas Spectacular is coming to one of Devon’s most popular tourist attractions.

Crealy Adventure Park & Resort is bringing a sleigh full of glitz and glamour to their festive celebrations, which will feature nine new Christmas attractions and is set to welcome 35,000 guests throughout December.

The main event will be their Christmas on Ice show – the first of its kind in the South West – performed by a team of international ice skaters and aerial artistes. The show will be performed in Crealy’s 750-seater Big Top Arena.

HRH The Princess Royal presented staff from The Donkey Sanctuary an award in recognition of their employee training last week. It is the second time the international animal welfare charity has received the Princess Royal Training Award.

The West Country's leading artisan producers recently joined Darts Farm for their special Harvest Supper. The evening saw the start of the 25 years' celebrations of this nationally award-winning family business, run by the three Dart brothers - Michael, James and Paul.

Extra shirts for Ottery table tennis club

Otter Garden Centres has sponsored additional club shirts for Ottery St Mary Table Tennis Club after the club experienced unexpected growth.

The garden centre helped with new shirts for the existing three teams in 2017 - but after more players signed up, the club realised it needed more.

Presenting the extra shirts to the club, Otter Garden Centres Manager John Giblin said: “It’s a pleasure to provide ongoing support to the club in this way – we’re delighted that so many new players have joined over the past year.”

Students and staff at Newton Abbot’s pioneering technical college have received a valuable lesson in how to save a life as part of a national initiative by the Resuscitation Council.

South Devon University Technical College (UTC), hosted an interactive CPR training session to mark Restart a Heart Day 2018. Exeter City fell to a 2-0 defeat away from home against Tranmere Rovers in Sky Bet League Two.
