Countryside team and Axe Vale Canoe Club members missed the royal wedding to clear-up a 1km section of the East Devon coastline

On Saturday 19 May 2018, 15 members of the Axe Vale Canoe Club, supported by an East Devon District Council Countryside ranger took part in a coastline clean-up.

The team used canoes to remove rubbish from a 1km stretch of the coastline, East of the River Axe, up to Culverhole Point.

Packexe reaches solar energy milestone

Solar installations at Packexe Ltd in Marsh Barton have reached a significant milestone with their generation of more than 10,000 kilowatt hours of clean electricity in a single month.

May 2018 was a particularly sunny month in Exeter and for the very first time Packexe surpassed the 10,000 kwh energy production milestone.

Ten thousand kilowatt hours (or kWh) of clean energy production would offset about 4.49 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions and is enough to power a washing machine for 4,348 loads of washing.

Scams alert from Devon, Somerset and Torbay Trading Standards

Devon, Somerset and Torbay Trading Standards is issuing a warning for people to be aware of a spate of investment scams.

The Trading Standards service has received a number of complaints from people who have fallen for the scams, which claimed a high level of return for a minimal risk.

In fact, victims typically lost tens of thousands of pounds.

Trading Standards wants people to know that there are many types of investment scams to look out for, and that scams are continuously evolving.

Local artists donate new signs to Dray Court in Exmouth

Two new mosaic signs were recently installed at Dray Court, in Rolle Road, Exmouth.

The signs, made and donated by Exmouth artists Allan Punton and Manya McMahon, are made from hand-cut Venetian glass.

The artists are now working on two further signs to be installed later in the year at Morgan Court, on the other side of Rolle Road, completing the overall theme of the four seasons.

Contributions towards the cost of the materials have been made by East Devon District Council and MPS Windows.

Young South West Photographers Competition - now open

A fantastic opportunity for young photographers hailing from the South West.

Submissions are accepted from 14-21 year olds living in the region - up til 31 December. Local craft gallery Devon Guild have asked for photographic images which capture the essence and process of 'creation' - a maker, artist, or element of nature includinjg the mess, the mistakes, or progression to perfection.
