Funding success for Princetown’s Dartmoor Conservation Garden

The Princetown-based Dartmoor Conservation Garden is celebrating its double success in being awarded £470 from Okehampton Waitrose Community Matters fund, as well as receiving a generous grant from the John Spedan Lewis Foundation.

The Community Matters support from Waitrose in Okehampton enables garden beds to be restocked with carefully-sourced native Dartmoor plants and new garden tools to be bought. Waitrose’s Community Matters in-store scheme donates £1,000 every month between 3 local good causes, supported by its customers’ green token vote.

World-renowned diabetes researchers from the University of Exeter Medical School will give prestigious talks at the Diabetes UK Professional Conference 2018 this week.

Beast from the East delays A379 road schemes

Snow and freezing temperatures earlier this month has delayed the completion of a road resurfacing scheme by approximately a week and caused the cancellation of three others, all on the A379.

Resurfacing work on the A379 Exeter Road in Dawlish was due for completion on March 19. Freezing temperatures and poor weather has caused the loss of nine working days. The scheme relies on one surface being laid and left to set before the next is applied. This process was further hampered by wet weather last weekend. Beach cleans get a boost as insurance firms join forces to fund new stations

New beach clean stations will soon appear across the across the South West coastline and beyond, helping turn the tide on the plastic and debris polluting our beaches.

Devon-based holiday home insurance specialists Boshers have teamed up with Ecclesiastical to support the #2minutebeachclean initiative.

Cancer awareness day in Princesshay

FORCE Cancer Charity is staging its first awareness event in Princesshay this month as part of a new partnership with one of Exeter’s leading shopping and dining centres.

Bowel Cancer Awareness Day is being held on Friday March 23.

A team from FORCE and the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital will be in Bedford Square from 11:30am to 3pm.

Specialist nurses will be on hand to answer questions and offer advice and representatives from FORCE will be there to let people know about the face-to-face support available locally to anyone affected by cancer.

On 8 March in Exeter, the national Right to Build Task Force announced a new partnership to support Custom and Self Build, with Teignbridge and its Greater Exeter Strategic Plan (GESP) Partners.
