Herbal Tea Bar to mark Herbal Medicine Week

Medical herbalist Jayne Palmer of Roots To Health is putting on a special tea bar in Honiton on Saturday (20th June) to mark the start of Herbal Medicine Week, organised by the Exeter-based National Institute of Medical Herbalists.

Herbal Medicine Week is held in June each year to coincide with Midsummer’s Day, when a wide range of medicinal plants can be found.

Exeter 'perfect setting' for European Sevens

Former Chiefs player Chris Cracknell believes Exeter offers the perfect setting for the final round of this season's European Grand Prix Sevens Series.

After earlier rounds in both Moscow and Lyon, the Devon city will be the final stop-off point next month (July 11-12) for Europe's top 12 Sevens teams as they prepare to do battle at Sandy Park.

With qualification for next year's Olympics in Rio de Janeiro also up for grabs for a number of the competing teams, Cracknell believes the Exeter event will be a real spectacle for rugby-loving supporters in the region.

Man dies following Axminster crash

Police are appealing for witnesses to a collision in Axminster on Friday 12 June in which a man died.

At 2.30pm Dorset Ambulance Control informed police of a collision involving a car and lorry on the A35 at Raymond’s Hill on the Dorset-bound carriageway, close to the Devon and Dorset border.

Officers from Devon and Cornwall Police and Dorset Police attended, along with highways, fire and ambulance crews.

The 78-year-old male driver of the blue Volkswagen Polo, from Poole, Dorset, was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.

Clampdown on illegal fishing continues

Environment Agency enforcement teams continued their clampdown on illegal fishing, issuing 90 offence notices for close season offences across England from the start of close season (15 March) to the end of May. Patrols focused on a range of illegal fishing – including close season offences and fishing without a valid rod licence.

‘Close season’ – which runs from 15 March to 15 June inclusive – is when coarse angling is suspended on rivers, streams and specified canals and stillwaters to protect spawning fish.

A family-run housebuilder is accelerating its land acquisition programme to enable it to expand its output of quality new homes after securing a £15million facility from Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking.

Exeter Family Friendly raise £2.5k

A team of executives from Exeter Family Friendly raised £2675 for Devon-based charity Rainbow Living after cycling 72 miles from Wellington to Salcombe.

New cycle shelter for RD&E staff

Staff at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital are now benefiting from improved cycling facilities to encourage them to get on their bikes and enjoy a greener and cheaper commute to work.
