NHS photo and picture competition

There are just over two weeks left to enter NHS Northern, Eastern and Western Devon Clinical Commissioning Group’s ‘Picture Your Health’ photography and picture competition.

The theme of the competition is ‘healthy people, living healthy lives, in healthy communities’, so if you are doing something healthy with your family this Easter weekend, why not take a photograph showing what health in Devon means to you?

You can take a picture of anything from a family walk or bicycle ride in Devon’s countryside, to a day at the beach or a football match.

Debut for Exeter School composer

For the first time, Exeter School’s Choral Society concert featured the work of one its very own pupils who also sang solo parts.

Upper Sixth Former Fionn Connolly, who has recently received an offer to read Music at Cambridge University, composed Ring on Ring inspired by the poetry of Sylvia Plath.

The school community of about 130 pupils alongside parents, staff, alumni and friends of Exeter School, accompanied by a full professional orchestra, performed Fionn’s piece on Thursday 19 March 2015 in Exeter Cathedral.

Tim and Vickie raise money to help bereaved parents make memories Tim and Vickie Hamilton, from Doddiscombsleigh, have donated £2350 to the Maternity Unit at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital to help other bereaved parents make memories with their babies. Tim and Vickie sadly lost their third child, Cameron, when he was stillborn in September 2013. After doctors were unable to find Cameron’s heartbeat, Vickie became extremely unwell and spent time in Intensive Care and on the Labour Ward in the hospital’s ‘Heartsease’ bereavement room. Exeter Chiefs booked themselves a first-ever European semi-final encounter as they brushed aside Aviva Premiership rivals Newcastle Falcons with a six-try blast at Sandy Park.

A new poll reveals the negative perception that Brits have of becoming a landlord, with 36% of UK adults saying it's extremely risky being a buy-to-let landlord.

Despite the negative perception, millions of buy-to-let landlords are reaping the benefits with data from HM Revenue & Customs showing that the number of buy-to-let investors in the UK is around 1.6 million, after an increase of 120,000 in 2014.

Nurse recruitment open day

THE Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust is hoping the success of its nurse recruitment open days continues when it holds its latest event in Sidmouth later this month.

The Trust is looking for experienced and newly-qualified Band 5 nurses to bolster the teams at its community hospitals in East Devon.

NUT call for school holiday reform

The NUT has sparked debate by saying pupils should be able to skip school to go on holiday without their parents being penalised.

About 1,200 delegates attending the the union's national conference will vote on the parental fines motion this afternoon (Saturday).

The motion seeks to repeal the relevant amendments to the Education (Pupil Registration) (England) Regulations 2013, which has led to parents taking children out of school being fined unless there are “exceptional circumstances”.
