Webb Ellis Cup heads for Exeter

Rugby's greatest prize, the Webb Ellis Cup, will visit Exeter on 10 and 11 July during the Rugby World Cup Trophy Tour.

Launching on June 10, 100 days to go to the opening match, the Rugby World Cup Trophy Tour will travel through Scotland, Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, Wales and England before arriving at Twickenham Stadium on September 18 ahead of the Opening Ceremony.

Man illegally stored 84,659 waste tyres at Devon sites

The owner of a tyre waste business has been given a 15 month custodial sentence, suspended for two years, and a two year supervision order after illegally storing almost 84,659 waste tyres at several sites in Devon. The case was brought by the Environment Agency. Staff at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital have raised £700 for Comic Relief by holding a Great Inter-Divisional Bake Off on Red Nose Day. Competition was fierce as staff from each division in the Trust – Specialist Services, Medicine and Surgery - put their culinary skills to the test and came up with all manner of baked confections for their divisional cake sales. New statistics show the majority of parents in the South West believe stopping children being exposed to junk food adverts could cut childhood obesity, as the British Heart Foundation (BHF) delivered a 30,000 strong petition to ban the adverts before 9pm to Britain’s most famous street.

The BHF polled 2,000 UK parents and found 67% of parents in the South West believe that stopping children being exposed to junk food adverts could help towards tackling the obesity crisis in children.

A special Easter egg hunt inspired by Rugby World Cup 2015 kicks off along the Exe Estuary Trail this spring.

The Exe Egg Chase will run during the Easter holidays, starting on Saturday March 28 and running through to Sunday April 12.

People taking part have to find small, Rugby-ball shaped chocolate eggs which are hidden at a number of businesses along the estuary trail route including, Saddles & Paddles, Toby Buckland Plant Centre, Stuart Line Cruises, Darts Farm, the Salutation Inn and Double Locks.

Motorcyclist seriously injured in A380 crash

Police are appealing for witnesses after a collision on the A380 near Newton Abbot left a motorcyclist with serious injuries.

Ambulance and police attended the collision, involving a white Ford Transit van and a silver Yamaha YZF motorcycle, which happened shortly before 1.20pm on Wednesday 25 March on Newton Road, Kingskerswell, outside the Texaco garage.

The 51-year-old male rider of the motorcycle, from Newton Abbot, was taken by ambulance to Torbay Hospital with potentially life changing injuries.
