Devon Carers, the information, support and short breaks service for carers, has been accepted as a Network Partner of Carers Trust.

Carers Trust, a new charity formed from The Princess Royal Trust for Carers and Crossroads Care, work to improve support and recognition for carers. They have a network of 300 partners who work together to ensure help and support is available for half a million carers across the UK.

Expression Cubana at Exeter Corn Exchange

An evening of traditional Cuban music and Salsa is to be staged at Exeter Corn Exchange on Saturday 30 March.

Expression Cubana are an amazing six-piece authentic and irresistibly danceable Cuban band led by charismatic vocalist, flautist and composer Kico Cowan.

Local charity benefits from Lord Mayor’s Valentine Ball

The Lord Mayor, Councillor Rob Newby, accompanied by the Lady Mayoress hosted a Valentine's Masquerade Ball at Exeter Castle on 15 February 2013, in aid of his chosen charity, SOCOPS. Guests were welcomed by Miss Charlotte Ward (Regional finalist in the TeenStar Talent Competition) who along with her keyboard entertained the guests before dinner. Following that and an auction, the guests tried their hand at the fun casino and danced the night away to the well know local band, ‘Thick as Thieves’ followed by DJ Ben Fayter.

British Transport Police launches new non-emergency text number

You can now text the British Transport Police (BTP) on 61016 to tell them about non-emergency incidents, similar to the ones you would report to the 101 phone number provided by your local police force. In an emergency always dial 999.

The text number will be monitored 24/7 and, while it is not for reporting emergencies, the BTP says it will be able to send officers if required.

When to use the text service: Text 61016 (or call 0800 40 50 40) when you want to contact the BTP about an issue that doesn't require an emergency response. For example, you can text when:...

Man arrested on suspicion of murder in Torquay

A 56-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a woman in Torquay. Police were called to a property in Shelley Avenue at 6.40am today (6 March) and discovered the body of a 54-year-old woman. The man has been taken to Torbay District Hospital but remains in police custody.

A police investigation is underway and scenes of crime officers are conducting an examination of the property today. The cause of death has yet to be established and next of kin have not yet been informed.

RMT says SW Trains/Network Rail delivering some of the highest fares and worst services
