Exploring the Vertues of Herbes

Learn more about the power of plants in the year 1602 by helping our ‘herb women’ prepare natural remedies in the Tudor kitchen, using a variety of plants gathered from their own physick garden. Mistresses Eleanor and Christina are skilled in the knowledge and the use of herbs.

They will be preparing infusions, tisanes, poultices and healing salves for the benefit and wellbeing of the Hurst household.

Look at wildlife close up with a digital microscope and magnifying glasses and draw the patterns revealed.

Drop in 10.30am to 12.30pm and 1.30pm to 3.30pm

All children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult. Accompanying adults can watch/supervise for free. Some activities are messy so do wear clothes that can get dirty. If an activity is busy there may be a short wait.

Bushcraft Week and Camp Wild Experience Day

Release the spirit of adventure in your children and let them discover and explore the natural world around them. This half term week children can take part in bushcraft skills - fire making, shelter building, campfire cooking, whittling, care and use of tools, arts and crafts including some really cool fire sculptures! and of course toasting marshmallows over the campfire!

10am-5pm every day. Members free. Escot entry fee applies to non-members. There may be a charge for some activities. Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Please wear old clothes!

Donkey Dudes at the Donkey Sanctuary

If you’ve got a budding donkey groom in the family, why not bring them along for a special one-on-one session with one of the donkeys in our events team. A 20 minute session will introduce under 16s to the basics of donkey care, after which the Donkey Dudes will leave with a certificate detailing what they’ve learnt.

Not suitable for children under 5 years old.

Booking desirable, first come first served bewteen 10.30am and 1pm on the following dates 26 May, 28 May and 30 May.

£5 per person for a 20 minute session.

Catrin Webster: Live Abstractions

The works collected in this exhibition are the outcome of artist Catrin Webster’s Leverhulme Trust-funded residency in the Department of Geography at the University of Exeter, 2012-13.

Over twenty original artworks by Catrin comprise the majority of the show; in addition there are works on show by Dr John Wylie, a cultural geographer based at Exeter who has been collaborating with Catrin through the course of the residency.

Artist Irena Boobyer is holding her fourth exhibition at A la Ronde, near Exmouth, 9-22 May. Irena’s new series of intricate papercuts and silhouettes was inspired by A la Ronde’s wildflower meadow and Parminter Walk.

Irena says: "Through my work you can follow in the footsteps of A la Ronde’s spinster cousins Jane and Mary Parminter and enjoy a stroll around the meadow rich in flora and fauna, delight in the wildflowers, butterflies and birdsong, and taking in some excellent views over the Exe estuary."
