There seems to be a fair bit of chat around these days about the pros and cons of training multiple times a day. One camp saying that multiple times a day training is an excellent method of improving performance, physique and such like, while the other camp say that it will lead to poor results, reduced ability and fatigue. So here are some thoughts, observations, experience and the occasional, fact as I see it.

Consider the goal. What are you trying to achieve? Are you a professional athlete, keen sports person or simply someone that enjoys training for the many benefits it has?...

The new building, opened by the Queen earlier this year, hosted a wide range of family entertainment organised by the University's Students' Guild. The whole show was broadcast live during BBC Spotlight, featuring presenters Victoria Graham...

TUC calls for end to outsourcing region's public services

The South West TUC is calling for an end to the outsourcing of the region's public services.

It believes that recent controversies over a range of privatised services will turn the tide against outsourcing.

Private firms delivering health and social care, transport, education, Olympic security, help for the unemployed and council services have been in the news for failings of one sort or another.

Nigel Costley, South West TUC Regional Secretary said: “As this list grows, so the tide is turning against those who believe private profit is the best motive for...

The thrill of Speed - but only at 100 miles per hour

It’s only been nine months since Holiday On Ice was last at Westpoint with Robin Cousins‘ excellent Tropicana , but given the reception the latest spectacular, Speed , received last night, it has lost none of its appeal for Exeter audiences.

Much has been made in pre-publicity about the use of motorbikes in the show, so we went expecting a full-on evening of leather and two-stroke oil on ice - what we got was something completely different.

Speed is merely a premise around which the show is choreographed: each half has five distinctly separate pieces - Speed of Love,...

The settlement with the federal government came 2½ years after the fiery drilling-rig explosion that killed 11 workers and set off the nation's largest offshore oil spill.

In announcing the deal, Assistant Attorney General Lanny Breuer said the tragedy "resulted...

Tis says recent results should give City momentum

City manager Paul Tisdale believes that two good results at St James’ Park in quick succession have given the Grecians some momentum ahead of two tough away trips to Bradford and Gillingham.

Exeter beat AFC Wimbledon 2-0 last Tuesday before pegging back high-flying Fleetwood Town to earn a draw on Saturday. Journeys to Yorkshire and Kent face two in-form teams in quick succession looks a daunting prospect, but the Grecians’ boss believes that shaking off a barren run of results has given the side a good base to work from. “We made improvements, and I really liked the way we played...
