More Rugby World Cup tickets to go on sale

A further 100,000 additional Rugby World Cup tickets will go on sale from July 27 it was announced today.

The increase from 2.3 million tickets to 2.45 million tickets, following final venue configuration across the 13 match venues, gives more fans the chance to be part of the spectaculat tournament.

Exeter Uni celebrates summer graduation

A Lord, a Nobel Prize winner, a BAFTA winning playwright and a European athletics gold medallist will be amongst those honoured at the University of Exeter’s summer graduation this year.

In total, 15 special guests will receive an Honorary Degree and the CSM Trust will be inducted into the College of Benefactors as part of the celebrations at the Streatham campus in Exeter and in Truro Cathedral for the Penryn Campus in Cornwall.

The Chancellor has presented his Summer Budget to Parliament today. Here is a summary of what was announced:

1. Introducing a new National Living Wage of over £9 an hour by 2020

From April 2016, a new National Living Wage of £7.20 an hour for the over 25s will be introduced. This will rise to over £9 an hour by 2020.

2. The government will run a surplus in 2019-20

The theme of this year’s Devon County Council’s exhibit gave Devon County show-goers the chance to get involved in helping their local community, as well as taking part in activities.

The council’s marquee at the 120th County Show focussed on communities and volunteering, with staff providing a host of information to visitors on ways to connect with their communities and to get more involved in local schemes, whilst also providing show-goers with lots of opportunities to participate in an array of activities.

Conservative Hugo Swire has been re-elected by 25,401 votes as the MP for East Devon – with a majority of 12,261. This is Hugo Swire’s fourth Parliamentary victory – he first became MP in June 2001, and was subsequently re-elected in May 2005 and May 2010. It is also his largest majority since 2001.

The fate of 96 of the 100 most marginal seats in England and Wales could be decided by single parents, new analysis from Gingerbread has found].

Single parents have headed one in four families in the UK for the last decade [2] but this is the first time that their potential voting power has been matched against majorities in marginal constituency seats.
