25,000 Rugby World Cup tickets to go on sale

Fans will have further opportunities to buy tickets for Rugby World Cup 2015 matches from Tuesday April 28, via tickets.rugbyworldcup.com , from 10am.

25,000 tickets will go on sale for an additional 12 matches at Sandy Park (Exeter), Kingsholm Stadium (Gloucester), Brighton Community Stadium (Brighton), Elland Road (Leeds) and Villa Park (Birmingham). This is in addition to the 16 matches currently on sale at tickets.rugbyworldcup.com

Easter was the busiest period of the year so far for Exeter Airport with over sixteen and a half thousand inbound and outbound passengers using the airport over the holiday period; a figure which was helped by the re-introduction of the Flybe ‘sun routes’ to Alicante, Malaga and Faro.

A high level of bookings on the other Flybe services, together with those of Skybus and Thomson flights which operated to as far away as Sharm El Sheikh, meant that the airport was over fifteen percent busier than Easter last year.

Gemfest is back for its third year of festival fundraising, having raised over £11,000 for Hospiscare and The Brain Tumour Charity at the last two events.

Organised by local Brain Tumour ‘survivor’ Gemma and her friends, Gemfest promises a day packed with free family activities topped off with a variety of live music and entertainment in the evening from 6pm. Something for everyone – guaranteed.

Castle opens its doors for new season

Powderham Castle, the 600 year old home of the Earl and Countess of Devon near Exeter, opens its doors this Friday for the start of the new 2015 season.

After months of preparation, the Castle & grounds will be open again to visitors from Friday 27th March to Friday 30th October 2015, and provides a perfect history-laden family day out. The Castle is open from Sunday to Friday from 11am to 4.30 pm.

This Saturday, Powderham Castle with be holding a Spring Open Day to celebrate the start of the 2015 season from 11am to 4.30 pm.

Chinese New Year celebrations in Exeter

Chinese New Year is the most important of the traditional Chinese holidays and 2015 will be the Year of the Goat.

In China, it is known as the "Spring Festival" and marks the end of the winter season.

The University of Exeter will be celebrating the Chinese New Year on Saturday 21 February in Exeter city centre and on the Streatham Campus. At 1pm the Dragon and Lion dancers will parade through the city, starting in Buffet City, ending in Royal Albert Museum (RAMM).
