Throughout December Devon and Cornwall Police will be making sure that the region’s roads are a safe place for everyone.

Any drivers involved in a collision and any motorists whose driving may lead police to suspect they are under the influence of alcohol will be breathalysed. If drug driving is suspected, drivers may have to undergo a roadside sobriety test.

Roads Policing Inspector Richard McLellan emphasised that being “under the limit” does not necessarily mean that a driver’s judgement and abilities are not impaired.

Alcohol Awareness Week is kicked off in Devon on November 13 with an LGBT event at Exeter City Football Club.

County’s first recovery café opens in Exeter

A NEW café has opened to offer an informal, supportive place to go for people around Exeter experiencing issues with alcohol or drugs. The Exeter Recovery Café was officially opened by CEO of System Six Kitchens Ian Foster, who supplied the café kitchen, tables and chairs as a competition prize, with Deputy Mayor Cllr Peter Holland. 80kg of illegal tobacco seized in Exeter

Illegal tobacco with an on-the-street value of more than £63,000 has been seized in a day of raids across Exeter.

In a joint operation on Friday 5 February carried out by Devon and Somerset Trading Standards Service and HRMC, six businesses in St Thomas, the city centre and in Pinhoe were investigated by officers, sniffer dogs and their handlers.

A mixture of retail and licensed premises and a self storage business were raided. Further investigations are being conducted by Devon and Somerset Trading Standards Service for trademark breaches.
