Former Tiger Waldrom is ready to roar

Exeter Chiefs newcomer Thomas Waldrom says the Devon club can ill afford to take a backward step when they lock horns with his former club Leicester Tigers this Saturday at Sandy Park (3.15pm). Having departed the East Midlands this summer for a new start in the Westcountry, the experienced No.8 wasted little time in making his mark for Rob Baxter's side, scoring two tries on his league debut in Exeter's 52-0 thumping of newly-promoted London Welsh. It was a dream start not only for Waldrom and the Chiefs, but the England international knows a much stiffer test awaits his new club when the...

Super start for Exeter Chiefs

If this is the sign of things to come, then Exeter Chiefs supporters can expect a pretty exciting season ahead in the Aviva Premiership.

Rob Baxter’s side produced a stellar, record-breaking performance to ruin London Welsh’s return to English rugby’s top tier.

Debutant Thomas Waldrom led the charge with two tries, but there were a further five touchdowns for the Devonians who amassed over 50 points in the Premiership for the first time.

Dave Ewers, Sam Hill, Ian Whitten, Jack Arnott and Chrysander Botha also got in on the scoring act, while fly-half Gareth Steenson...

Exeter Chiefs captain Dean Mumm will watch from the Kassam Stadium stands when his team’s new Aviva Premiership season kicks off against London Welsh on Sunday, but has faith in his young team-mates to begin with a bang.

The former Australia lock underwent surgery on his shoulder over the summer and is not fit enough to lead out the reigning LV= Cup holders this weekend.

It means a youthful looking side will be left to battle against the Aviva Premiership new boys. But, despite some of the squad’s younger players having displayed a rawness in pre-season training, the 30-...

This is the sight that awaits Exeter Chiefs fans when they arrive at Sandy Park for the first game of the season next Saurday.

Work has been continuing late into the night to ensure the multi-miliion pound improvement works are complete.

The west stand has been extended, the east stand now has terracing and the pitch is a mixture of grass and a state-of-the art synthetic material.

Sandy Park will be one of the best stadiums in the Aviva Premiership thanks to the summer investment.

Will Chudley says it’s key that Exeter Chiefs look to get into the winning habit as quickly as possible ahead of the new 2014/15 season.

Having kicked off their pre-season programme with a 24-17 victory at the Cardiff Blues, the Aviva Premiership club head across the Irish Sea this week to tackle Ulster Rugby at the Kingspan Stadium on Friday night (7.30pm).

With head coach Rob Baxter keen to run the rule over all his squad – including his eight new signings – scrum-half Chudley knows it’s important that each and ever Exeter player lays down a marker ahead of the upcoming...

Baxter: Caldwell is 'raring to go'

Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter believes new signing Ryan Caldwell is "raring to go" after adding the Irishman to the playing ranks at Sandy Park. The 29-year-old Irish international, who has agreed a two-year deal, is Baxter's fifth summer recruit so far having already added Thomas Waldrom, Moray Low, Mitch Lees and Tomas Francis to his playing roster for the 2014/15 season. Caldwell's arrival in Devon will offer a welcome boost to his new coach, who this season alone has lost locks Tom Hayes and James Hanks to retirement and Romana Graham to French club side La Rochelle. Baxter said...

Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter is hopeful of sorting out the future of England international Jack Nowell within the next few weeks. Baxter has already opened talks with the talented 21-year-old over a new deal to keep him at Sandy Park. Although under contract for the 2014/15 season, the Chiefs boss is keen for Nowell – who this week underwent surgery on his knee – follows the lead of fellow young guns Dave Ewers, Sam Hill and Luke Cowan-Dickie, all of whom have agreed new deals with the club in recent weeks. “Jack’s been keen to get something formalised and we’re keen to do the same...

Johnson targets England recall

Exeter Chiefs flanker Tom Johnson is hoping his impressive on-field display in Saturday’s Aviva Premiership win over London Irish was enough to win him a place amongst Stuart Lancaster’s England squad for this weekend’s crunch RBS Six Nations clash with Wales at Twickenham.

With Saracens No.8 Billy Vunipola sidelined with a knee injury sustained in the recent win over Ireland, Lancaster will now have to make an enforced change to his back-row for the penultimate fixture in this season’s tournament.

Gloucester’s Ben Morgan is likely to get the nod from head coach Stuart...

Hard work is the key, says Mumm

Aussie international Dean Mumm says Exeter Chiefs must continue to keep working hard in their bid to rediscover their winning touch in the Aviva Premiership.

Sunday's 23-10 loss at Saracens not only gave Rob Baxter's side an unwanted hat-trick of losses against the division's top three in as many weeks, but also condemned the Chiefs to a seventh league loss in eight starts.

With London Irish next on the agenda at Sandy Park this Saturday (3pm), Mumm is hoping a return to home comforts will help re-ignite the Chiefs after a testing few weeks.

"There are positives to...

Chiefs unsuccesful in Saracens match

Saracens 23 Exeter Chiefs 10

There was no fat lady singing on this occasion – instead we had a Marilyn Monroe tribute act to contend with - but Exeter Chiefs’ latest outing to Allianz Park again hit a bum note.

Having come unstuck against both Northampton Saints and Bath in the past fortnight, Rob Baxter’s side made it an unwanted hat-trick of losses against the Aviva Premiership’s top three as hosts Saracens produced a powerful second half display to seal victory.

A converted try from hooker Schalk Brits, together with three penalties from the boot of fly-half...
