Hanlons Brewery, formerly O’Hanlons, was officially re-launched on Wednesday 5 June and celebrated with a party for over 300 guests.

Jim Bungard and Dan Taylor took over the flagging business last December and moved the existing brewing equipment into a purpose-built brewery at Half Moon Village near Exeter; re-branding and refreshing the image.

Yellow Hammer fans and friends for the last 15 years, Jim and Dan had both been looking for a new direction in their careers. When the opportunity of taking over the brewery came up, they felt it was too good to miss.

Dartmoor Brewery and Ottery St Mary pub ignite legendary town event with scorching real ale

Dartmoor Brewery has teamed up with Ottery St Mary pub, The Volunteer Inn, to create a special winter warmer beer for revellers to enjoy during the town’s legendary annual flaming tar barrels event.

Aptly named ‘Old Scorcher’ by the carnival committee to reflect the flaming barrel tradition, the speciality beer is a delicious 4.4% real ale brewed with black treacle.

Thousands of thrill seekers are expected to descend on Ottery St Mary during the carnival and flaming tar barrel event with barrel rollers and visitors alike invited to try the limited-edition beer available...

Art Theft in Beer

Police are appealing for information after a £2,000 glass ornament was stolen from a gallery in East Devon. Last Thursday (19 September) between 2.45pm and 3.20pm two men entered The Steam Gallery in Beer and stole a glass ornament valued at £1995.

A witness believes that they spoke with an Essex accent. The first suspect is described as white, stocky build, around 5’10 – 11ft in height with mid-length, brown hair. Fun in the sun at Beer’s new play park

Local children and parents came along to the East Devon District Council (EDDC) Family Fun Day at Ash Hill Play Park in Beer on Monday 29 July.

As part of the day the £17,500 improvements to the play area were officially opened. The Chairman of Beer Parish Council, Martin Richards, cut the ribbon and declared the enhanced play area open and ready for fun.

A top South Devon brewery has created a special beer - for gorillas.

The Bays Great Gorilla Ale is a one-off brew celebrating Paignton Zoo’s 90th birthday and The Great Gorillas Project.

The project features life-sized model gorillas sponsored by businesses, painted in original designs by specially commissioned artists and displayed in a unique public art trail around Exeter and the English Riviera.

Famiily Community Festival at Beer

An exciting family community festival is being held by East Devon District Council in Beer on Monday 29 July.

The event will be held at from 10am to 1pm. Children can enjoy face painting, circus skills, a bouncy castle and many other attractions – all for free!
