Bicton College is thrilled to introduce the newest addition to its licensed zoo: Herbert, a nine-year-old Indian Eagle owl.

Nestled within the picturesque landscapes of the South West, Bicton College’s zoo serves as a dynamic learning environment for aspiring animal experts, handlers and veterinary nurses.

All smiles as BOAT trainees finish course

Seven East Africans who have studied for the past six weeks at Bicton College attended a farewell presentation at Broadhembury House.

The trainees, five from Kenya and two from Malawi, were sponsored on their course by BOAT (Bicton Overseas Agricultural Trust).

Chairman, David Wendover explained: “BOAT was set up in 1991 by a group of Devon farmers and the then Principal of Bicton College, all keen to help people in developing countries improve their livelihood by advancing the quality of agricultural education for rural communities.”

Council and Bicton College form partnership

East Devon District Council’s Countryside Team has joined forces with Bicton College to provide work experience placements to Countryside Management students. This relationship will give the next generation of rangers an insight into habitat and visitor management across all the council’s nature reserves including Knapp Copse, Holyford Woods and the Axe Estuary Wetlands. The students will gain invaluable skills in conservation, running events, working with volunteers and delivering education sessions.

Cross-country runners from across the South West will be converging upon Bicton College for the England Athletics Cross Country Championships 2015. Bicton lecturer completes ironman challenge

Adventure seeker Derek Brown has successfully completed the Ironman Wales competition, which is considered to be one of the toughest Ironman courses on the international circuit.

Incorporating a choppy 2.4 mile swim, a 112 mile hilly cycle followed by a full marathon through the narrow streets of Tenby, West Wales, Derek completed the course in a fantastic time of 12 hours and 35 minutes.

Rugby World Cup bases confirmed

England Rugby 2015, the Organising Committee for Rugby World Cup 2015, has announced the list of 41 Team Bases which will host the 20 participating teams during the Tournament, taking place between September 18 and October 31 2015.

Romania and Georgia will be based at Woodbury Park Hotel and Golf Club and Bicton College and Tonga will be based at the Univeristy of Exeter.

X Factor finalist Luke Friend will perform at this year’s Bicton Fest family music festival next month.

Originally from Teignmouth, Luke will be welcomed back to Devon to showcase his latest music at Bicton College’s annual Bicton Fest weekend from 29th – 31st August.

Bicton Fest is the annual family music festival held in the grounds of Bicton College. From 29th - 31st August, the family friendly weekend will fill three days and three stages with local music, entertainment and trade stands.
