The search begins for Devon's Best Churchyard of 2021

During the pandemic, Devon’s residents have appreciated the green spaces around their churches like never before and now Devon CPRE is inviting churches of all denominations to enter this year’s competition to find the ‘Best Churchyard’ in the whole of the county.

Following a year with little to celebrate, Devon CPRE applauds the volunteers helping to maintain and ‘green up’ Devon’s churchyards. East Devon District Council Countryside Rangers are putting together a number of monitoring schemes that will be used at sites across the district. The surveys will be used to record important information about the quality of the habitats the Countryside team manage and help to record biodiversity in East Devon.

The surveys will measure a range of indicators of habitat quality including botanical surveys and counts of butterflies, reptiles, wetland birds, dragonflies and more! The surveys will be conducted at a range of sites managed by the East Devon District council Countryside...

Race to Discover the Local Biodiversity

Join Devon Wildlife Trust and the University of Exeter on the Streatham Campus on Saturday 22 June for a fun family day out to discover a wealth of wildlife.

The event is being run in partnership between Devon Wildlife Trust and the University of Exeter as part of the Festival of Ecology which forms part of the British Ecological Society’s centenary celebrations.

The Race to Discover the Local Biodiversity will take the form of a Bioblitz. A Bioblitz is where you find, indentify and record as many plants and animals in one area as possible.
