A Devon business woman’s discovery of kombucha, which led to the creation of her own business creating the healthy drink, now makes her £120k a year, with the business growing as more and more people discover the benefits of the effervescent and refreshing drink.

Exeter has been named among the top UK cities for starting a new business in 2023, according to a new study from Virgin Money .

Ranking cities based on criteria such as internet quality, high street recovery rate since Covid, employment rate and innovation, the research found that Exeter is the tenth best UK city for new business, with the city scoring highly in all metrics in the study.

Recent years have been challenging for small businesses, with an estimated 20% increase in insolvencies in 2022, and nearly 400,000 businesses closing between 2020 and 20211.

Amazon has launched its latest analysis of the company’s regional investment across the UK. The 2022 Amazon UK Economic Impact Hub shows that the company has invested more than £140 million in Devon since 2010.

The Amazon UK Economic Impact Hub provides regional data on jobs created by Amazon locally, the number of regional independent small businesses supported by the company, the level of economic activity driven by Amazon’s investments and the export sales recorded last year by small businesses in Devon selling on Amazon.

One-third of all employees in the UK feel undervalued at work, according to new national research revealed today.

The research, conducted by Appreciate Business Services, the home of Love2shop, puts the number of employees who feel undervalued across England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland at 10 million people.

Nearly four-fifths (79%) of employees who feel undervalued are looking for a job elsewhere, with that figure increasing to nine out of ten (90%) among the youngest demographic aged 18-24.
