Chamber raises £1,000 for charities

Exeter Chamber of Commerce helped nine local charities raise over £1,000 at their Christmas Charity Auction Lunch last week, held at the Mercure Exeter Southgate Hotel.

The auctioneer for the special lunch was Mel Everett, weekend presenter for Devon/Cornwall Heart radio.

Items for auction included a ‘behind the scenes’ tour of the RAMM, in aid of the museum’s development trust, for six people to see some of the reserve collections; and an annual membership for four people at Devon’s Crealy Great Adventure Park to raise money for WESC Foundation. Exeter BID launches new website

As the Exeter Business Improvement District (BID) reaches the next stage in its campaign, a brand new website is being launched that is a one stop shop for news, case studies and information about the proposed BID for Exeter.

The website will also play host to the BID business plan which will show businesses in the BID area what the proposed initiative’s funds could be spent on.

The website will play a key part to the campaign, ensuring voters and others in the BID area will be able to obtain all the information needed to make an informed vote early in 2015.

Food security conference confirms speaker

The Exeter Initiative for Science and Technology 2014 conference has announced a new speaker to its programme – Mark Shepherd, Branch Manager at Waitrose. Mark, who also acts as the Retail Lead on the Waitrose Local and Regional Sourcing working party will be speaking about sustainability and reliance upon localised production and sourcing in a ‘greedy’ world.

The Exeter Initiative for Science and Technology has launched its first conference, bringing together leading figures from academia and business to discuss the impact of data, science and technology on food security.

The event aims to raise awareness of, and to provide a general overview of, aspects of science and technology supporting agri-science and food security which might help secure the future of UK food requirements.

Exeter Chamber of Commerce helped eight local charities raise over £900 at their Christmas Charity Auction Lunch last week, held at the Mercure Exeter Southgate Hotel.

Paul Nero, chief executive of Radio Exe was the auctioneer on the day, taking bids from over 100 business people that were in attendance. Items for auction included an Exeter Chiefs Rugby weekend experience for two, in aid of St Loyes Foundation, and a beautiful framed print of the cover photo of the BBC Radio Devon Countryside Calendar from Devon Community Foundation.
