City leaders answer business questions

Business people are being given the opportunity to question the city’s top leaders at events hosted by Exeter Chamber of Commerce, the city’s leading business organisation.

On Friday 6th July Exeter MP, Ben Bradshaw, will brief Chamber members on the latest decisions from Westminster which will impact their businesses and take part in a question and answer session.

Exeter City Council Chief Exec and Growth Director, Karime Hassan has recognised Exeter Chamber of Commerce as crucial to Exeter’s success at a recent networking event to start the celebrations of the Chamber’s 150th anniversary year.

Over 100 Exeter Chamber members attended a special networking lunch recently which included a dedicated election question time, giving members a chance to meet Exeter’s parliamentary candidates.

Members had their business-related questions answered by Ben Bradshaw from the Labour party, Vanessa Newcombe from Liberal Democrats, James Tadgdissian from Conservative Party and Jonathan West an Independent candidate.

Exeter Chamber raises £1,600 for charities at networking lunch

Exeter Chamber of Commerce raised a total of £1675 for 11 local charities at this year’s Christmas charity auction lunch. Held at the Mercure Southgate Hotel, the event attracted over 100 Exeter business people giving them the opportunity for some festive networking and to bid for some fantastic prizes. Devon Chamber of Commerce is today supporting British Chambers of Commerce’s call to the government to embark on a wholesale simplification of business tax to eliminate the loopholes that give rise to tax avoidance schemes.

Most businesses see large-scale tax avoidance by major corporates, and particularly large multinationals, as unfair competition. In order to limit the scale of this, the BCC is calling for immediate action on three fronts:

Over 90 business leaders from across the city attended the July Chamber lunch with guest speaker, Ben Bradshaw.

The event that was held at the Royal Albert Memorial Museum saw Ben give delegates an update on his Deputy Leader campaign as well as covering topical subjects such as better broadband for Exeter, city wide congestion and renewable energy.
