LGBT+ people across the South West are being urged to explore adoption as a potential parenting route as a part of a national campaign launching today (7 March).

With over 80,000 children in care in 2021 in England alone, LGBT+ Adoption & Fostering Week brings together local adoption agencies and potential new LGBT+ adoptive families. A major new study will show how widening inequalities in education and employment caused by the COVID-19 pandemic will impact children’s life prospects.

Experts hope their work – which includes a comparison of the life chances for today’s young people with those who started jobs during the 2008 recession - will help UK governments and policymakers to develop long term recovery plans to improve outcomes for all children.

Sapphire the buddy dog – or wonder dog as her family calls her – came into the Ring family’s life in 2020, after the first lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic. Buddy dogs are provided by sight loss charity Guide Dogs for children with a visual impairment.

Double digit spending increase for vulnerable children and adults in Devon

Spending on services for vulnerable children and adults in Devon are set to rise by more than 10 per cent next year.

Devon County Council's target budget for 2022/23 was approved by the Cabinet today (Wednesday 8 December) but will not be finalised until February.

The target budget calls for an extra £18.2 million to be spent on adult care and health in the new financial year. That's an increase of 10.5 per cent.

There will be an increase of £11.6 million for children's services if the budget is ratified. That's a rise of 10.8 per cent.
