The Devon Coast has one of the most EV-friendly road trip routes in the UK

It’s likely that this summer will largely be spent in the UK, so what better way to make the most of it than packing up the car and heading for some of the beautiful scenery the British Isles has to offer?

Based on recent figures, it is also likely that many will be loading up the Sat Nav ahead of their journey in an electric vehicle (EV). Official government figures from the start of 2021 put over 150,000 zero-emission battery electric vehicles on the UK's roads - an increase of almost 100,000 since 2019. Plug-in hybrid and range-extended electric vehicles have also seen a...

Mamhead slipway to be temporarily closed from September

Works to replenish the rock revetment in front of Exmouth’s historic listed seawall were given the go ahead at a meeting of East Devon District Council on 25 July 2018.

The repairs to the revetment, which is adjacent to the recently completed Mamhead slipway, are required in response to a continual lowering of the estuary seabed in this location. The rock revetment, which was originally constructed in the 1970s, has become increasingly ineffective over the past ten years. The rock at the western end is moving away from the toe of the seawall, leaving it unprotected and vulnerable....

Rail line disruption will get worse in the future

Rail services to and from the South West of England could be disrupted for more than 10 per cent of each year by 2040 and almost a third by 2100, a new study suggests.

The cost of maintaining tracks and sea defences could also soar as predicted sea level rises, coupled with coastal storms and floods, pose major challenges for rail operators and governments.

The research, published in the Journal of Transport Geography, focusses on the impact of sea level rises on the Dawlish to Teignmouth stretch of the main London to Penzance route, which was closed for two months in early...
