New Teignbridge business swings into action

Teignbridge District Council has welcomed the return of mini golf to Tucks Plot in Dawlish with a new business getting into the swing of things this summer.

Earlier this year Teignbridge advertised for expressions of interest to take on the running of the mini golf so that it could be open all year round to attract visitors. Offering an iconic spot close to Dawlish seafront, the popular location attracted the attention of four applicants who each made rental offers for the popular visitor attraction.

The region’s largest youth sports event is set for Dawlish next weekend with 100os expected to descend on the town for a day of sport, activities, food, entertainment and one or two well-known names. The South West Rotary Youth Games will take place at Dawlish Leisure Centre and surrounding sites on Saturday 7 July with young people from across Devon and Cornwall representing their area teams in 14 sports. Snow and freezing temperatures earlier this month has delayed the completion of a road resurfacing scheme by approximately a week and caused the cancellation of three others, all on the A379.

Resurfacing work on the A379 Exeter Road in Dawlish was due for completion on March 19. Freezing temperatures and poor weather has caused the loss of nine working days. The scheme relies on one surface being laid and left to set before the next is applied. This process was further hampered by wet weather last weekend. Arctic weather causes problems on roads, rail and air

We are not out of the woods yet.

That was the warning today as the bitterly cold weather, strong winds and snow showed no sign of abating.

Exeter Airport is shut and there were problems on the railway line at Dawlish this morning (Friday 2nd) which is also closed. Bus services across the region have also been affected.

Chief Inspector Adrian Leisk also issued a no-nonsense message to those considering taking to their vehicles.

Police launch Dawlish rape investigation

Police are appealing for witnesses following allegations of a rape in Dawlish.

The incident occurred on the beach path close to the Dawlish Warren Bird Nature Reserve on Thursday 18 January at around 11am.

The suspect is described as a white man, approaching 6ft in height and of stocky build. It is believed that the suspect may have had a tattoo in and around his right ear which could have been wings or an angel; the attackers face was covered.

It is believed that there were dog walkers in the vicinity who may have seen the victim immediately after the incident....

Swimming spots in Teignbridge have all reached ‘excellent’ bathing water quality standards.

Visitors to Teignbridge will be able to enjoy swimming in cleaner water than ever before thanks to huge strides made to improve water quality.

Teignbridge has welcomed the 2017 results of water testing at more than 400 outdoor swimming spots in England – called bathing waters - published today by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra).

Three jailed following vicious Dawlish robbery

Three men have been jailed at Exeter Crown Court (13th October) following a robbery in Dawlish, where the victim was sprayed in the face with ammonia.

Paul Rowntree aged 36 from Dawlish was jailed for 19 years; Rikki Ward aged 28 from Sunderland was jailed for 15 years 3 months; and Ross Morton aged 29 from Dawlish was jailed for three years for their role in the attack and robbery that took place in Dawlish on Monday 30 January 2017.

Barton Surgery in Dawlish is today announcing the opening of a new Health Hub, acting as a centre of excellence which will provide additional services for patients, directly next to the practise.
