Exeter Deaf Students Have Their Say At National Conference

Students from Exeter Deaf Academy shared their aspirations, from living independently in their own home and attending university to being the first deaf Prime Minister, when attending at a national conference on Tuesday, National Day for Disabled People. The conference aimed to gather views from students of different specialist colleges about why specialist colleges are important and appropriate to them and how they might promote this to potential students in the future.

Pyjamas and ping pong for Pudsey at Exeter Deaf Academy

College students will be hosting a range of events to raise money for this year’s Children In Need including staff vs student table tennis.

More embarrassment for the staff is on offer with a “Whose that Baby?” competition and pin the tail on the donkey where the donkey includes staff members faces. Students will be giving hairdressing, manicures, wax styles and hand massages. Other fundraising events include, bake sale, Wii games and a fun run.

Students from Exeter Royal Academy for Deaf Education will be taking over Route 2 in Topsham on Thursday 28th November.

After the fun and success of last year’s British Sign Language (BSL) appearances at Café Lingua, which takes place on Thursdays at Route 2 in Topsham, we are set to put on another great event this November.

Exeter Royal Academy for Deaf Education has launched a promotional film showcasing its school. Aimed at prospective students, parents and funders, the film provides an insight into the daily life of pupils at the Academy.

Created by Inside Job Productions and directed by deaf film-maker Samuel Dore, the film features parents, grandparents, pupils and teachers, who share their experiences of Academy life.

Offices across Exeter celebrated with a riot of colourful outfits in support of Exeter Royal Academy for Deaf Education’s first Wear It Loud Day. A group of deaf actors in Exeter will be given the chance to perform Shakespeare in a fresh way, thanks to a donation from the region’s leading housebuilder.

PaddleBoat Theatre Company has formed a relationship with the Royal Academy for Deaf Education in Exeter. PaddleBoat has now received a £1,000 grant from Persimmon Homes South West to help offer new performance opportunities to students at the Deaf Academy.
